A week ago today I was wrapping up a delightful three-day soak in the 2008 SXSW Interactive Festival… what a treat! I’m putting it on my list for next year’s professional development opportunities. Highlights for me were seeing one of my idols, Kathy Sierra, give a knockout talk that made me want to take up UI design again (tiny clip here); hearing Jane McGonigal talk about games as happiness engines, and suggest that life should include more happiness-generating features; watching a panel of savvy women (and a guy) slap Guy Kawasaki around (he gave as good as he got so no need to feel bad); exploring the nature of secrets with Frank Warren of Post Secret; and meeting friends old and new. I loved being there and being part of the energy of the event. Other people took better notes than I did, and wrote better post-conference write ups, and took more pictures; lucky for me they generously put those things online.
